Winifred Cathrine Szabo
Winifred Cathrine Szabo the third of four daughters to Olive and David Szabo, in the Industrial heart of the English Midlands. Educated at a modern Comprehensive School and working quietly achieved sufficient high quality qualifications to gain a scholarship to Lady Margaret Hall College of the University of Oxford, where she achieved a Ba in English.
Having graduated, she joined one of the aggressive Merchant banks in the City of London dealing in Futures. By hard work and working 80 hours a week she achieved considerable success and made a great deal of money, which has enabled her to adopt a slightly extravagant life style. Feeling unfulfilled she left banking as the “loadsamoney” mentality faded and took a Post graduate teaching Diploma which she received on her 28th Birthday.
Physically Miss Szabo is a slight lady of 5’ 2” in height and of slim build, her mind was described by her University tutor as like a Steel Trap, sharp, incisive and unremitting. Her lack of physical size is made up for in her presence, sharp and kind at the same time.
Her first teaching post was at Malvern Girls College in Rural Worcestershire as second Mistress in the English department under her control the pass rate in this subject in the British GCSE examinations climbed from 48% to 94%. Popular with both staff and girls despite her insistence of the highest standards and for her use of the cane for any lack of effort or application.
Offered a position of Senior English Mistress by Cheltenham Ladies College she left MGC after eight years, and joined Cheltenham where her robust though kind teaching methods pushed the school to the top of the Pass League in English. Eventually the poor general methods of control and discipline caused her to resign, since then she has traveled the world teaching in Schools of the highest quality, looking for the right school to work in. Requiring a disciplined yet caring environment where standards were considered important and the use of “old Fashioned” punishments were used.
Convinced of the value of the work ethic, and of the importance of a stable and loving environment for young people, Winifred Cathrine Szabo at 41 years of age is seeking a new challenge.
