Leda Anne Rickles.

Hi my name is Leda and my first year in Oaks and pines was in November 1941. I had to transfer here because of some work my mom was doing translating for the war. I really love it here. I like all the girls, they are all my friends. I do miss my mom. This is the first time that I’ve been separated from her for so long a time. Daddy is always off commanding his ship. He a very important person in the Navy and has his own ship. He just got one before we left and we watched him get underway. That’s what they call it when a ship leaves it’s berth. The berth is where they tie it up.

When I came they told me that I had just missed the Halloween Party and I thought that would have been so much fun. I had my studies and my favorite subject is Social Studies. I think it would be so nice to visit all those faraway places.

I’ve lived Grimsby that’s in England with my Dad and my Mom, and I went to school at Proper Pines. That’s an all girls school like Oaks and Pines, except I didn’t live there. I lived at home, but Dad was at sea most of the time, I just loved it when he was there for a long stretch at a time. From the top floor of our house you can see the ships sailing. I like it most when it is at night with a full moon, then you can see the ships and they look magical in the night.
